Employees Extinguish Ceiling Fan Fire at Pet Store

Firefighters responded to 1289 Sherman Avenue for a report of an extinguished fire in a fan at a pet store. Upon arrival, Engine 10 found patrons and employees in the store with no alarms sounding. One of the employees reported that a ceiling fan had started on fire while operating. She deployed a dry chem extinguisher to the unit and extinguished the fire. Firefighters checked for fire extension and found none. The ceiling fan was no longer operating, and Engine 10 turned off the electrical breaker for the fan. Employees stated that they would contact building maintenance to address the issue.
