Incident Details
Engine 1 responded to a construction site at Bassett Street and West Johnson Street for reports of a construction worker dangling from the building.
Workers on site reported they were moving scaffolding and adjusting it alongside the building when the scaffolding, and the telehandler underneath it, tipped over. A worker on the scaffolding at the time clung onto the building and hung suspended by his own power until he was no longer able to hold on. It's estimated he fell approximately 30 feet.
Upon arrival, Engine 1 found the scaffolding collapsed in the street with the construction telehandler underneath it. Engine 1 confirmed there could be no further movement from the construction equipment. They thoroughly checked the scene and conferred with on-site construction personnel to confirm everyone was accounted for and there were no additional patients.
Engine 1 performed a rapid assessment on the patient and prepared him for ambulance transport. Medic 11 assumed patient care and transported the worker to a local ER. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
Engine 1 remained on scene to mitigate hazards related to leaking fuel and oil from the tipped telehandler. MPD maintained the road closure on Bassett Street at W. Johnson until the construction equipment could be moved and the roadway cleared.
