Incident Details
Engine 8 responded to East Town Boulevard after a witness reported a vehicle that appeared to be on fire.
Engine 8 located the vehicle but no smoke was showing from outside. Firefighters observed the windows were heavily fogged, however, and the windows were hot to the touch.
With the doors locked, firefighters removed the driver- and passenger-side windows to gain access. They encountered heavy black smoke throughout the passenger compartment, and a small active fire was found near the gear shifter area. Engine 8 extinguished the fire and disconnected the battery to eliminate electrical hazards.
The owner of the vehicle came out of a local business to identify themselves. They reported they've owned the vehicle for about two months, and they have been experiencing electrical issues with the vehicle since owning it. No recent repair work had been done, and there were no known mechanical issues prior to this fire.
Fire damage was contained to the passenger compartment.
