Firefighters Respond to Garage Fire on East Side

Firefighters responded to the 300 block of Garnet Lane for a reported structure fire and smoke visible. 

Upon arrival, Engine 5 found heavy fire coming from the front of the garage and a neighbor attempting to put out the fire with a garden hose. There were 10-foot flames coming from the garage door, and the fire threatened the home next to it. 

Engine 5 initially wet down the house to protect it from the heat of the flames. Firefighters then directed their water stream to some openings around the garage door. With enough fire knocked down, firefighters then entered the garage to finish extinguishing the fire. A thermal imaging camera was used to find and cool down hotspots that remained. The fire did not extend to the house. 

No injuries were reported during the incident. The MFD Fire Investigation Team was on hand to attempt to determine the origin and cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
