Budget Engagement Sessions Start this Week

posted
The first budget engagement session is on June 2

Hello Madison,

We encourage you to attend three Budget Engagement Sessions this June. These public meetings will kick off the 2027 budget season and allow the community to engage with staff and elected leaders. These sessions are also an opportunity to learn more about the work the City does, our budget process and to provide feedback to policymakers on your priorities for Madison's future.

Each session will focus on a particular policy area and start with an open house where you can speak directly with City staff about the services each agency provides to residents. The open house portion of the meeting will be followed by a budget presentation from Finance Director Dave Schmiedicke and a Q&A with Alders.

Message from the Mayor

It's Madison Bike Week and I encourage everyone to participate by biking to work or school, or going on a ride with friends or family. There's a reason why Madison is one of only five communities in the country ever recognized as a Platinum-level Bicycle Friendly Community

by the League of American Bicyclists. Our city boasts over 105 miles of off-street paths and protected bikeways, plus more than 160 miles of bike lanes and boulevards. It's wonderful to explore Madison and if you haven't already, please take advantage of our fabulous network of bike amenities.

We also continue to make improvements. We're currently experimenting with a “School Street" in front of Marquette Elementary, closing the block during arrival and dismissal to make things safer for kids walking and biking to school — and families love it. Since last year's Bike Week, the City has also added several high-comfort bikeways, including new paths along North Shore Drive and Rusk Avenue/Badger Road, another phase of the West Towne Path, and two new East Side bike boulevards connecting parks, paths, and neighborhoods.

Additionally, we are preparing some major transportation plans including an All Ages and Abilities Bike Network Plan, a Pedestrian Plan, and the Safe Routes to School Plan. These plans are still in the works and there'll be more opportunities for residents to share their feedback and ideas. Together, we are setting a bold vision for a safer, more connected Madison.

Again, please make the most of Madison Bike Week and consider attending one of the many events scheduled all this week.

-Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway

Make Music Madison on June 21

Make Music Madison is on June 21

It is that time of year again where musicians across genres will turn the city into a stage for a single day. Make Music Madison returns June 21st, our annual one-day, free, city-wide music celebration. Plan a day to get together with loved ones to celebrate the value the arts brings to our lives and our community. Explore a new neighborhood, learn about a genre, meet your neighbors, and come together to share our love of music.
