Alert: Heavy Rain Expected in Area - Take Precautions

Heavy Rain Expected Today, 2-4 Inches Possible in Some Areas 

Multiple rounds of showers and storms are expected today. This afternoon there is potential for locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding.  
 
City of Madison Engineering crews are clearing priority storm drains and grates around the City to help support the stormwater system with drainage and make sure it's functioning as well as possible.  
 
Following recent dry weather, Madison lake levels remain within the normal summer ranges and are not currently a concern for lake level flooding. 

The National Weather Service reports a weak tornado or two could be possible during the system moving through, with frequent lightning.  

Scattered rain showers, with isolated storms, are expected to continue this evening.  

Please do not drive through flooded roadways.  

While the City is not under any current watches or advisories, please remain alert for Flash Flood warnings. 

Flash flooding can occur anywhere throughout the City when the stormwater infrastructure cannot convey the amount of water that is falling.   

Urban flash flooding is likely in historically flash flooded areas of the City.

• E. Mifflin Street at N. Livingston Street  
• E. Mifflin Street at N. Blount Street  
• N. Third Street at E. Johnson Street  
• Grand Canyon Drive at Odana Road  
• N. Midvale Boulevard at University Avenue  
• University Avenue at Highland Avenue  
• Marty Road at Raymond Road  

Please use caution near creeks and streams. If you live or drive near a river or creek, please monitor the river levels and do not walk or drive through floodwaters.
