Local Voices and Meaningful Conversations: Meet Your Westside Alders!
The Common Council invites residents to a meet-and-greet to connect and engage with Madison's Westside alders! This event offers a casual atmosphere where both alders and residents can discuss what matters most to them. It promises to be an evening of great company and meaningful conversations.
Join us on Tuesday, July 14, in the Wisconsin Neighborhood Center at Vel Phillips Memorial High School from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to meet your local alders and learn about their goals and vision for serving the district. The evening will begin with a welcome and introductions, followed by time for networking and conversation.
This event is free and everyone is welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be provided. Please register in advance through Eventbrite!
Meet Your Westside Alders:
Alder John Duncan, District 1
Alder John W. Duncan was elected to serve the First District of Madison in 2023. He brings experience in legal, healthcare, and compliance fields. Throughout his career, Alder Duncan has advocated for vulnerable and underserved populations and continues this passion and advocacy in his service on the Common Council. He believes in fostering engagement and responsiveness in his role to empower his community. He is dedicated to promoting equitable opportunities, sustainability, and public services that meet the diverse needs of Madison.
Alder Badri Lankella, District 7
Alder Badri Lankella brings a collaborative approach to governance to promote equity, affordable housing, accessible transportation and more. His expertise in technology, infrastructure, and environmental policy allows him to effectively address the city's pressing issues. Alder Lankella has helped to shape the future of mobility and accessibility in the city during his service on the Transportation Planning and Policy Board. His active service to his community as an alder and a citizen demonstrates his dedication to fostering a safe, vibrant, and inclusive city for all.
Alder Joann Pritchett, District 9
Before joining the Madison Common Council, Alder Joann Pritchett worked for many years in clinical practice. She continues to prioritize education, health, wellness, sustainability, and empowerment across the Greater Madison community. As a founding board member of the African American Health Network and the Foundation of Black Women's Wellness, Dr. Pritchett works to uplift youth, women and families. In her role as an alder, she pursues collaboration and transparency to advance policies and make a positive difference in her community.
Alder Yannette Figueroa Cole, District 10
Alder Yannette Figueroa Cole has lived in Madison for almost 30 years. In that time, she has served people experiencing homelessness through her work with The Beacon and Friends of the State Street Family, as well as led grassroots efforts to support Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. Her endless work to uplift and serve her community is also seen in her role as an alder. She continues to dedicate herself to inclusive and equitable policies in public safety, housing, and transportation to ensure every voice is heard and valued.
Alder John P. Guequierre, District 19
Alder John P. Guequierre works to champion issues of budgeting, sustainability, and housing affordability and all issues in -between. Alder Guequierre is also an active member of 350 Wisconsin and is passionate about the environment and the impacts of climate change. Beyond his position on the Common Council, Alder Guequierre helps to advise architects, engineers, and developers on how to best create affordable and green buildings. His experience has uniquely positioned him to be able to support Madison in creating affordable housing options, climate resiliency, and beyond.
Alder Barbara Harrington-McKinney, District 20
Alder Barbara Harrington-McKinney is currently serving her seventh term as an alder. Throughout her career, she has worked to promote restorative justice and ensure equal access to opportunities for all residents. These efforts also translate into her work as an alder. Alder Harrington-McKinney is committed to promoting public health and safety and addressing constituent services through transparent and equitable policy decisions. She aims to increase home ownership opportunities and access to livable wages, and address road safety issues.
