Applications Being Accepted to Fill Alder District 1 Vacancy

District 1 residents are invited to apply to fill this vacancy for the remainder of the current alder term, which ends on April 20, 2027. Applications must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

The procedure for filling a vacancy on the Common Council is set out in Mad son General Ordinance 2.03 and Wisconsin State Statute 17.23(1)(a).
The Common Council President facilitates the application process to fill the vacancy. This process includes interviewing applicants and recommending a candidate at the Common Council Executive Committee (CCEC) meeting on Tuesday, September 1. After conducting interviews, the CCEC will make a recommendation to the Common Council. On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the Common Council will vote to appoint the interim District 1 alder, who will serve until April 20, 2027.

Applications must include:
- Name
- Address
- Telephone number (Home/Mobile/Work)
- E-mail address
- A biographical or professional resume that includes education, work, neighborhood, and civic experience
- A statement on why you wish to serve
- A statement of what you wish to accomplish
- A statement on whether you plan to run for alder in the Spring 2027 election
Timeline with key dates:
- Tuesday, August 4, by 4:30 p.m.

- Tuesday, September 1, at 5:30 p.m.
- CCEC interviews applicants and makes a recommendation. Please note that interviews will be conducted in person.
- Tuesday, September 8, at 6:30 p.m.
- Appointment of the District 1 interim alder at the Common Council meeting. The selected alder will take their seat at this meeting in person.
