Incident Details

A neighbor called 911 concerned about a backyard fire in a fire pit that may have been growing out of control. Engine 3’s crew spoke with the owner of the fire pit and determined that although he had a working hose nearby, he did not have a spark arrestor. The City of Madison outdoor fire ordinance requires that fire pits have an enclosure, heavy screen, or spark arrestor to control and contain embers and sparks.

At MFD’s request, the owner extinguished the fire and said he will use a spark arrestor in the future.
