Incident Details

Paramedics driving Medic 10 were returning from a medical call when they passed by a grass fire on a north side roadway. A pile of grass clippings had ignited on the boulevard.

The paramedics used all the water in their available water can as firefighters on Engine 10 arrived to relieve them. Engine 10’s crew was able to fully extinguish the fire and saturate the grass clippings to prevent a second fire.

Firefighters investigated the cause of the flames but couldn’t determine the source. Finding no other hazards, they left the area and returned to service.

The Madison Fire Department employs both firefighters and paramedics; however, all paramedics begin their careers at MFD as firefighters. For this reason, all ambulance personnel are trained and capable of responding to fire calls when necessary.
