Incident Details
An automatic fire alarm sent firefighters to 132 East Wilson Street Tuesday evening. Residents were evacuating as Engine Company 1 rolled up to the scene.
The alarm panel indicated heat detected in the trash room. Firefighters proceeded to that location and found a small fire involving a wooden umbrella belonging to a restaurant in the building.
Firefighters put out the fire with a water extinguisher. While the fire was contained to the area of origin, a small electric heater mounted to the trash room wall did suffer some fire damage.
Engine Company 1 ventilated the room and reset the alarm panel. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
