Incident Details

1 resident was injured when a fire broke out in a 24 unit apartment building early Monday morning. The fire began in an upper unit in the middle of the building at approximately 12:30 am. Dispatch received a call from residents at 12:35 am notifying them of a fire alarm. Engine 12, Engine 7, Ladder 2 and Medic 2 all arrived at 12:44 am. On scene, they found residents evacuating. One resident from the unit where the fire originated sustained non-life threatening injuries. This resident was transported to the hospital by M2.
The fire had been extinguished by the automatic sprinkler system in the building. Crews shut down the sprinklers and performed overhaul, confirming the fire had been fully extinguished. The fire damage was limited to the unit of origin and the unit directly below, displacing only 3 residents. All other residents of the building were able to return to their apartments. Red Cross provided assistance to the displaced residents.
Damages from this incident were minor largely due to the sprinkler system and aided by quick action by firefighters.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
