Incident Details
Two people were thrown from their boat on Lake Mendota when it capsized and sank near the Tenney Park Lock and Dam. One of the individuals was able to swim to shore and call 911, but the second boater was still stranded in the water. The Madison Fire Department’s Lake Rescue Team was able to locate the stranded swimmer in the darkness thanks to a flashlight he kept on hand and flashed from his location in the water. The Lake Rescue Team rescued the boater and brought him to shore. Both individuals were evaluated by paramedics but neither required further medical attention. The boat could not be located.
