Incident Details
On Monday, March 28th around 10:30 a.m., City of Madison Fire Engine 8 responded to a fire alarm on 2100 block of E. Springs Drive.
When crews arrived at the Microtel Inn & Suites, evacuation was in process and no smoke was visible from the outside of the three-story hotel. Firefighters made entry to a second floor room and found heavy smoke, but no active fire. Crews found a sprinkler head activation, which extinguished the fire.
The source of the fire was found to be an electrical light malfunction over a couch. Burning material dropped, which caused the couch to burn and an area of a wall to become scorched.
Damage is estimated around $2600.
No one was in the room at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
