In-Person Meeting-West Area Plan Cancelled - Snow Emergency Declared

West Area Plan meeting at Vel Phillips Memorial High School is canceled

Due to inclement weather today and the resulting cancellation of MMSD school the 6pm West Area Plan meeting at Vel Phillips Memorial High School is canceled.  Staff will be meeting to discuss a new date for another West Area Plan meeting, but in the meantime registration for the virtual meeting scheduled for Monday, February 13th at 6pm is still open via the project web page.  Project updates will continue to be posted to the web page and email list please check back or sign up for email updates for the latest information!

Snow Emergency Declared

A snow emergency has also been declared for the evening of February 9, 2023. Alternate side parking rules will be in effect for the entire City of Madison for the next two evenings to assist with clearing the roads.

All Madison residents are encouraged to choose off-street parking options for their vehicles and trailers. Fewer obstacles in the road means plowing operations will be safer, faster, and more complete.

Do not place your trash and recycling carts in the street gutter for emptying. Carts are an obstruction for plows as they work to clear snow from the roads. Collection carts should be in your driveway apron or on a cleared area of the terrace.

Parking Rules during a Declared Snow Emergency
The snow emergency declaration means overnight alternate side parking restrictions will be in effect for the next two nights for the entire City of Madison, including the Snow Emergency Zone.

Violators of the alternate side parking rules can receive a $60 ticket during a declared snow emergency, and you may also be towed. If your vehicle is towed, and additional $65 towing fee is applied to the parking ticket.

You must also follow all posted daytime parking restrictions. Violators of the daytime parking restrictions may also be ticketed and towed.

Parking on the Street Tonight (Thursday, 2/9/2023 into early morning of Friday, 2/10/23)
All residents who must park on the street tonight (the evening February 9 into the early morning hours of Friday, February 10) need to have their vehicles on the EVEN house numbered side of the street between the hours of 1am and 7am.

Parking on the Street Tomorrow Night (Friday, 2/10/23 into the early morning of Saturday 2/11/23)
Vehicles parked on the street tomorrow night (the evening of February 10 into the early morning of February 11) should be on the ODD house-numbered side of the street between the hours of 1am and 7am.

Other Parking Information
Parking will be available in the cashiered sections of city-owned ramps in the downtown area. During a declared snow emergency you can park for no charge at the City ramps from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. If you enter before 9 p.m. or leave after 7 a.m. you are liable for any parking charges before 9 p.m. and from 7 a.m. until the time you leave.

When parking in the ramps overnight, do not park on the top level so this area can be plowed. Be aware that vehicles stored in city ramps longer than 48 hours are subject to being ticketed and towed. Meters in lots and ramps are enforced 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Parking is also available at the Brittingham Park Shelter parking lot off of W. Washington Ave.

Follow Posted Parking Restrictions
Streets Division plows also use the posted parking restrictions during the work week to push snow from the road to the curb. Be sure you are carefully following those no parking signs or you may also be ticketed or towed.
