Addendum - COVID-19 Update: The Mayor Calls for Masks

Several of you have reached out to help start the D13 Mask Brigade.

Below is a pattern that a D13 resident found to be a good one as it allows for the user to insert a filter of their choosing:

There are many patterns out there, plus some YouTube videos, available on the Internet. Not sure that we need to pick just one, but it does make sense that the masks we make are effective.  I'm not handy with sewing machine, but I will help coordinate the effort. I'll even come to your home and pick up masks when you have a batch.

Hi Everyone.

Yesterday, Mayor Satya posted an urgent request for masks.  The request is for local manufacturers and the general public to assist in the production of face coverings to be used by city staff who are doing essential work that cannot be done at home.

These workers are out in the public and therefore should have PPE; however, as you know, there's a shortage of masks available.

Alexis London, executive director of Bayview, has also asked for masks for Bayview staff and residents. Masks are also needed for CDA staff and residents at Triangle properties and at Romnes.

Let me suggest we form the D13 Mask Brigade, teams of mask makers in each of our neighborhoods, so that we can make sure everyone who needs a mask gets one.

Many of you are doing this already.  If you'd like to join in a formal District 13 effort to take care of needs in our community, please let me know.
