Crime Warning -- Stay Clear of the Arboretum

posted

As if we didn't have enough to worry about, UW-Police have issued this alert about a homicide investigation in the Arboretum:

Members of the UW-Madison Community,

The UW-Madison Police Department is currently on the scene of a homicide investigation at the UW Arboretum. At approximately 6:30 a.m., a passerby who was jogging in the Arboretum came across two individuals who were lying in a ditch. One was pronounced dead at the scene – the other was transported to a hospital and died a short time later.

At this time, we ask that you avoid the Arboretum -- in particular, the Wingra Street entrance. If you have any information about this incident, please call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at (608) 266-6014.

Nothing is failsafe, but here are some crime prevention suggestions everyone should consider:

  • Always be aware of your surroundings.
  • Walk in a group using a well-lit route, if possible.
  • Call 911 if you observe something that you feel is dangerous.
  • If you feel you may be unsafe walking alone, walk with a group or call for a ride and wait somewhere you feel safe.

Nothing more to say here as I shake my head in dismay.

Stay safe, stay healthy.
