A reminder about office hours tomorrow and some updates on holiday refuse and recycling schedule, voting registration, property tax bill and Whole Foods at Madison Yards.

 

Open Office Hours

Reminder: Tomorrow evening (Tuesday 12/19/2019), I will have the final open office hours of year from 4:30-7:00pm at Alicia Ashman Library - 733 N High Point Rd, Madison, WI 53717. Feel free to come by, say hi and pick up a good book to read!

 

Christmas Holiday Refuse & Recycling Schedule

Below is the information regarding Streets Division operations on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Christmas Eve Operations – Shortened Hours

On Tuesday, December 24, 2019 the Streets Division will perform regularly scheduled refuse and recycling collection.  The drop-off site will also be open, but for limited hours.

Residents with a Tuesday collection day must have their carts to the curb by 7:00a.m. on December 24. If you place the carts to the curb after 7:00 a.m., you may miss your collection opportunity.

Crews will likely be in some neighborhoods earlier than the usual time, so residents must have the carts out by 7:00a.m. to ensure collection. The Streets Division hopes to conclude curbside collection of refuse and recycling by 11a.m. on December 24. 

Since additional personnel will be needed for refuse and recycling collections on Christmas Eve, other curbside collections, like large item pickup, may be temporarily delayed.

The drop-off sites at 4602 Sycamore Ave and 1501 W. Badger Rd will also close for the day at 11a.m. on December 24.

Christmas Day – Closed   

There will be no refuse, recycling, or large item collection on Wednesday, December 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday.  The drop-off sites will also be closed. 

Operations for Thursday, December 26, 2019

Madison residents who normally have their refuse and recycling collected on Wednesdays should place their carts to the curb for collection by 7:00am on Thursday, December 26, 2019.

Residents with a Thursday collection day should also should place their carts to the curb for collection by 7:00am on Thursday, December 26, 2019. 

Since the Streets Division will be collecting refuse and recycling from both the Wednesday and Thursday districts on December 26, it is imperative that residents in these areas place their carts curbside prior to 7:00am on that day.  Carts set out late may not be collected. 

Also, since Streets Division crews will be diverted from their normal tasks in order to collect refuse and recycling from the Wednesday and Thursday districts on December 26, other services, such as large item collection, may be temporarily delayed. 

Drop-off Sites Information

The City of Madison drop-off sites will be open the following hours:

December 23, Monday	7:30am to 3:00pm
December 24, Tuesday	7:30a.m. to 11:00a.m.
December 25, Wednesday	Closed
December 26, Thursday	7:30a.m. to 3:00p.m.
December 27, Friday	7:30a.m. to 3:00p.m.

The drop-off sites are located at 1501 W. Badger Rd. and 4602 Sycamore Ave.

The drop-off sites are currently on winter hours. The Badger and Sycamore sites are open 7:30am to 3:00pm Monday to Friday, except on city holidays. Winter hours will remain in effect until April 4, 2020.

Park Street, including the isthmus, should call 608-246-4532. West side residents, which are residents west of S. Park Street, should call 608-266-4681.

  Clerk's Office Encourages Voters to Verify Registration

In response to Friday's court ruling regarding the inactivation of voter registrations, the Madison City Clerk's Office strongly encourages voters to verify their registration status.

Voters with online access may verify their registration by visiting https://MyVote.wi.gov . Toward the top of the webpage, they may select "Search by Name" or "My Voter Info" to search for their voter registration. The website will prompt the voter to enter their name and date of birth.

Once the voter's registration information appears on the screen, the voter should look for a status of "You are Registered to Vote!" and should verify that the current address listed is accurate. If the voter sees a green button that says, "Click Here to Confirm Your Address," that means the voter was included in the mailing the Elections Commission recently sent to all voters it believed may have moved. It is imperative that these voters click the green button to confirm their address, if accurate, or click the gray "Update Address" button to update their voter registration online.

Voters without access to the internet are encouraged to contact the City Clerk's Office to verify their voter registration status.

  2019 Property Tax Bills

It is that time of year again to expect your City of Madison property tax bill. 2019 property tax bill calculation and preparation is now complete. The City of Madison Treasurer's Office is now accepting 2019 property tax payments. 2019 property tax bills have been mailed and are now available online here.

There are several methods of payment to make the process easier. One payment option to consider is Enrolled Payments. Using this method, you may pay online using your checking/savings account. You can view activity, edit your profile, or add/delete accounts. Select from a variety of email notifications to help manage your payments. There is not a fee for using eBilling. Residents who pay their tax bills in installments using the enrolled payments can easily set up their accounts to get the added benefit of electronic reminders as a due date approaches.

Another payment option is payment by phone. This service offers the option of payment via an automated service operating 24 hours per day. You will be able to enter your checking/savings account or credit/debit card privately by phone by calling 877-899-4281. Individuals using this service are asked to have their parcel and bill numbers ready. There is a fee for using a credit/debit card. There is not a fee for using a checking or savings account.

In addition, property owners are able to make a onetime payment by credit or debit card or accessing a checking or savings account. There is a fee for using a credit or debit card but none for using a checking or savings account. Residents are still able to submit their payments by mail to the City Treasurer's office. All mailing information is included in the tax bill. You may also pay in person at the City Treasurer's office in Room 107, City-County Building.

All tax payments postmarked on or before December 31, 2019 will be processed as having been paid in 2019.

Madison Yards Development To be Anchored by Whole Foods Market

Althought not in District 19 it's close so I did want to share a press release from Madison Yards (Hill Farms) :

Smith Gilbane, a joint venture comprised of developers Gilbane Development Company and Summit Smith Development, announced today that it has signed a lease for a 50,000 square foot Whole Foods Market to anchor its Madison Yards at Hill Farms development, located at the southwest corner of University Avenue and Segoe Road in Madison, WI.

Whole Foods Market is the first retail tenant secured for Madison Yards, a vibrant, 21-acre live/work/play district. The 1.7 MM square-foot development will feature multiple Class-A office and medical spaces surrounding a walkable central green plaza with an upscale hotel; and, 110,000 square feet of retail, restaurants, and entertainment spaces.

Smith Gilbane completed development of the 600,000 square foot State of Wisconsin State Office Building and parking garage on the site in 2018. The City of Madison approved the General Development Plan for the mixed-use development in May 2018. The next phase of the project, to include Whole Foods Market, hotel, parking, residential with ground-level retail, and roads and infrastructure is expected to begin in summer 2020 (pending site implementation approvals).
