Incident Details

Firefighters to a residence on the 1900 block of Northwestern Avenue for a report smoke and flames showing from the roof. Upon arrival, Engine Co. 10 noted a light haze of smoke coming from a gable vent. Firefighters climbed a ground ladder to the vent and removed the vent cover. More smoke was seen, but no flames were found.

Firefighters entered the single family home and accessed the attic from inside. An area of insulation, about one square foot, was discovered to be smoldering. Firefighters applied water and extinguished the insulation. Adjacent ceiling was pulled to look for signs of fire spread. Falling insulation was hot with burn marks, and additional water was used to continue to cool the burning insulation and hot spots. A junction box with exposed electrical wires was discovered beneath the insulation. MGE responded to shut down electrical service to the home.

Two people and a pet are displaced as a result of the incident. Nobody was injured. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced occupants.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
