Incident Details

The Madison Fire Department and other City of Madison agencies are responding to dozens of active calls for storm-related damage and safety hazards in the city. The most common reports are related to downed power lines and electrical hazards.

Please be patient as MFD, MGE, the City of Madison Streets Division, and other agencies respond to these call as soon as they are able. The work of clearing out downed trees cannot begin until lightning leaves the area, so many roads will remain blocked for some time. These blockages are widespread and may affect your morning commute.

MFD warns not to attempt to clear out downed trees and power lines on your own. Report these hazards to 911 so the proper resources are dispatched to your location.

For situations where there is no imminent life safety hazard, wait until the morning daylight, after weather has cleared, to assess possible damages.

Continue to remain indoors, away from windows. Stay connected to weather updates via the National Weather Service, your local TV and radio stations, and pay attention to safety alerts that appear on your cell phone.
