Bulk Brush Processing

No Contractors or Residents for Brush Processing

Brush processing operations at 121 E. Olin Avenue is for internal city operations only.

Contractors and residents are not allowed to use brush processing services.

Wood mulch remains available from the processing center, but we do not accept brush from contractors or residents.

Why are contractors and residents no longer able to use brush processing operations?

This change began on July 14, 2025.

A construction project to build a new drop-off site facility at 1504 Quann-Olin Parkway decreased some of the footprint at the brush processing center area, and we needed cut down on the amount of brush that comes through the site to be sure enough space is available for what is created internally by city operations.

What are options available to contractors with brush since the City of Madison no longer accepts brush from them at the processing center?

We recommend you contact the Dane County Landfill at 608-838-9555 to discuss their brush processing operations at their campus.

You may also want to inquire with private tree service operators in the area about brush processing costs, or perhaps local composters who may operate wood mulching operations as well.

What are options for residents now that the brush processing center no longer accepts brush directly from the public?

Most residents utilize the free and regularly scheduled curbside pickup options provided to residents that create brush.

If the curbside pickup is not preferred, you have additional options.

Streets Division Drop-off Sites

Residents that made brush themselves can use the City of Madison drop-off sites.

You need to follow all of the drop-off site rules

Drop-off Site Rules PageDrop-off Site Information Page

Contractors are not allowed to use the Streets Division drop-off sites. Drop-off sites are meant for city residents who have done the work themselves.

You get one trip a day. Your one trip is limited to what would fit into the back of a standard 5' x 8' truck bed or single-axle trailer.

And your brush must follow all brush size restriction rules in order for us to accept it at a drop-off site.

Brush must be longer than 18 inches and shorter than 8 feet long. And it must not be thicker than 8 inches in diameter.
