Free Mulch for Madison Residents

Madison residents can scoop up to 30 gallons (or 6 five-gallon buckets) of mulch for free.

Mulch is available at the 1504 Quann-Olin Park drop-off site during their hours. It is in a concrete corral.

Look for the signs and ask attendants for help if you cannot find it.

Do not approach the oversized mulch pile within the brush processing center area.

Bring your own shovels and buckets.

Free mulch supply is limited

Mulch is not guaranteed to be available when you arrive.

Free mulch will be restocked as staffing allows.

We work to keep the free mulch stocked as much as we possibly can.

All Loads Must Be Covered

All loads of mulch must be covered or enclosed in a vehicle.

Mulch service will be denied if you can't cover or contain the mulch to stop it from spilling or blowing out of your vehicle.

Many people arrive with buckets and a shovel and place them into the back of their cars or SUVs to get free mulch. This is acceptable. If you are planning on scooping your 30 gallons maximum onto a truck bed or a trailer, you will need to cover it with a tarp or other means.

Emerald Ash Borer Information

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection has certified our brush processing site for safe shredding of ash trees. This means that mulch coming from our site will be free of the emerald ash borer.
