Incident Details

A north side resident was awoken by their dog pawing at the bedroom door Sunday morning. The resident thought the dog wanted to go for a walk. As she got up to prepare to take the dog for a walk, she found there was a fire in the kitchen. She woke up her mom, gathered the dog, and safely escaped while calling 911.

Engine 10 arrived on scene and entered the residence to find moderate smoke and foot-high flames on the stove top. A pot was found on the burner, which was set on "high." Firefighters extinguished the fire with a water can extinguisher, moved the pot to a sink, and filled the pot with water.

No injuries were reported. The fire resulted in some damage to range hood and cabinets above the stove, the drywall near the stove, and smoke damage throughout the kitchen. Ladder 8 and Engine 10 confirmed there was no fire extension into the walls and attic space.
