Metro Transit Now Accepting Credit Cards

posted

Metro Transit is excited to announce another payment option is now available to ride the bus. Starting today, riders are now able to pay their adult rate bus fares with both physical contactless Mastercard or Visa credit cards as well as mobile wallets like Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google Pay.

Using a contactless credit card will provide all the same multiple-ride discounts as using an adult Metro Fast Fare single ride at $2.00, including a 2-hour transfer, and Fare Capping at $5.00 daily, $16.25 weekly, or $65 monthly rates. To receive transfers and discounts, riders need to use the same credit card for fare payment each time they board.

“This new option allows riders to ride Metro on the go without the need to prepay or create an online account ahead of time. It’s a quick and easy option for both frequent riders and traveling visitors who just want to hop on and ride”, says Mick Rusch, Chief Development Officer at Metro Transit.

Metro Transit recommends that riders do not hold up a wallet or purse holding both a Fast Fare card and credit card at the same time. The reader will add a charge to the card closest to the reader or show an error message. Switching between cards or virtual payment types will not be able to track or apply multiple-ride discounts.

Half-price fares are still under development for credit card payments. This feature will be available later this summer. Eligible youth, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those with low incomes continue to receive half-price fares when using their current Fast Fare cards.
