Incident Details

A fire that started during construction operations was caught quickly, preventing occupants from being displaced from their home Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded to a home on Spaight Street at 11:07 AM for a possible structure fire. While en route, Engine Co. 3 and other responding companies were advised that contractors were working on the roof and had reportedly been doing some welding.

Engine 3 arrived to find the contractor on an extension ladder using a garden hose to spray water into the soffit of the second story. Firefighters noted a small amount of white wispy smoke coming from a window casing on the second story. Inside the home, they also found a haze of smoke and heat signatures near the window casing.

Engine 3 pulled a hose line and began flowing water onto the window casing outside of the house. The heat signature previously found inside the home disappeared after water was applied to it.

Firefighters opened upstairs windows and ventilated the home. Ladder 1 assisted Engine 3 with searching for possible fire extension within the walls. There were no signs of smoke or flames, nor any heat signatures that would indicate the fire had spread.

Damage to the home was minimal, and nobody was displaced.
