Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway has appointed Lydia A. McComas to be the City of Madison’s next Clerk. Her previous role was as Voter Engagement Division Manager with Hennepin County in Minnesota.
“I’m excited that Lydia is joining our team in Madison. I think she’ll be able to offer a valuable fresh perspective to our Clerk’s Office operations, while building on the many areas of strength the office has established over the years,” says Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway. “She has strong communication skills and has led voter education campaigns with both community groups and the wider public. She’s well-positioned to lead the Clerk’s Office as we work to strengthen our operations.”
McComas played a key role in election administration in a county with more than 700,000 active voters, including the City of Minneapolis. She’s overseen compliance with election laws, as well as developing training for poll workers on legislative updates and new procedures. She has experience in many facets of election operations including voter registration, absentee voting, coordination with canvassing boards, and certifying election results. Additionally, she’s supported other local government agencies with records and licensing requirements.
"I am truly honored to step into the role of City Clerk and to serve Madison residents,” says McComas. “I will work every day to uphold the values of accountability, accuracy, and accessibility that are essential to this office."
McComas graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in political science. She holds a graduate certificate in election administration from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. Her first day at the City will be September 29.
