Door Creek Park - Ice Rink
Project Details
Project Information
Madison Parks is undertaking an earthwork project south of the new shelter in Door Creek Park to create a level area for a future ice rink. The rink will utilize a new liner system that Parks has been systematically introducing to replace older, non-lined rinks in our system. The liner significantly reduces the need for frequent refiling over the course of a season, helping conserve water resources in comparison to older installations. The new shelter includes an equipment rental counter, which we plan to use for skate rentals once the rink is operational. In addition to winter recreation, the same level area will serve as open lawn space during summer months – ideal for lawn games, gatherings and other community activities. Overall, the new rink-lawn area addition is consistent with the park’s long-term vision and will help expand year-round recreational opportunities for the community.
Parks has secured the necessary earthwork and erosion control permits for the project. Construction access will occur east of the existing playground, minimizing potential impacts to use of the shelter and playground. We anticipate the project requiring three to four weeks of work to complete, depending on weather conditions. The goal is to complete the project in time to allow for lawn establishment before the end of the growing season.
