Incident Details

While out conducting routine fire code inspections, a firefighter noticed the odor of natural gas coming from a building on Carling Drive. Using a gas monitor, Engine 7 determined a hose connected to a clothes dryer in the basement was leaking gas. Firefighters shut off the gas, ventilated the room, and the building manager was notified.

Engine 7 cleared from the call and carried on with other inspections in the area.

The incident highlights the multiple benefits of firefighters performing routine prevention activities in their neighborhoods. With the gas leak found and contained early, potential hazards were put to rest quickly and without harm to people or property.
