Hello District 7 Residents,

I hope you all had a restful holiday weekend. As we begin December, the City continues important work across affordable housing, transportation, sustainability, public safety, and community engagement. Below are the key updates, meetings, and events for the week. Thank you for staying involved, your engagement keeps our community strong.

Updates and Notices

Snow Emergency Continues Tonight; Winter Parking Rules in Effect Citywide

The declared snow emergency continues tonight (1:00 a.m. – 7:00 a.m., December 1). Crews will continue plowing roads overnight.

More details are available in the City’s Snow Plowing Update, but here are the essentials:

Street Parking – Alternate Side Parking Rules Apply Citywide

  • Tonight (11/30 into the morning of 12/1): Park on the odd-numbered side of the street.
  • These rules apply throughout Madison, including the Snow Emergency Zone.
  • Please also follow all posted signage.
  • Fines: $60 for violating winter parking rules; towed vehicles incur an additional $115 towing fee.
  • Winter Parking Hotline: 608-261-9111

Free Overnight Parking in City Garages During Snow Emergency

Free from 9 p.m. – 7 a.m. during a declared snow emergency.
Please remember:

  • Do not park on the top level (plowing required).
  • Do not park in metered areas (meters are not included in the free parking program).
  • Do not leave your vehicle in a city garage for more than 48 hours.
  • You may also park at the Brittingham Park Shelter parking lot on W Washington Ave.

How Residents Can Help Snowplows

  • Park off-street whenever possible, this greatly improves plowing efficiency and safety.
  • Keep trash and recycling carts out of the street. Place them in your driveway or on a cleared terrace area.

For full details on winter operations, visit the City of Madison winter website.

Leaf Collection Suspended for 2025

Due to the November 29 snowstorm, the City has suspended guaranteed curbside leaf collection for the remainder of 2025.

Key information:

  • Next guaranteed pickup: Spring 2026.
Spring yard-waste set-out dates will be posted early next year.
  • Staff who normally collect leaves are currently supporting snow and ice operations.
  • Frozen leaf piles and additional forecasted snow make pickup impractical.
  • If there is an unexpected stretch of favorable weather before Christmas, the City will attempt limited leaf pickup and announce it publicly but residents should not rely on this possibility.

Drop-Off Sites Resume Normal Hours December 1

All sites were closed November 30 for snow response.
Beginning Monday, December 1, the South Point and Sycamore drop-off sites return to standard hours.

For assistance:

  • Streets East — (608) 246-4532, 4602 Sycamore Ave
  • Streets West — (608) 266-4681, 1501 W Badger Rd

Yard Waste Reminder

Please check your yard-waste set-out dates and make alternative plans if needed due to leaf collection suspension.
