Winter Wildflower Seed Planting ~ Join Naturalist Tara Dary for a free fun educational family friendly hands-on activity to learn about native Wisconsin  wildflowers seeds and take some home.  Did you know native wildflower seeds need to freeze and thaw or "cold stratify" to germinate?  Learn how to make Seed Bombs to toss on the ground or on snow to help seeds get started when it thaws.  Try making a simple Winter Seed Greenhouse with a plastic jug and potting soil that you can set outside to 'stratify' over winter and plant shoots in Spring!  Native seeds and materials will be provided.  We may take a short walk to observe some wildflower planting areas along the bike path.

Outings in the Starkweather Creek area vary each month - be sure to check the starting location. Adventures typically at 10:00am on the 3rd Saturday of the month, year-round, and frequently start at the Goodman Community Center, unless noted otherwise. Outings include nature walks, canoe/kayak adventures, bicycling tours, and more, and are sponsored by the Madison Friends of Urban Nature, Goodman Community Center, and the Friends of Starkweather Creek. Free, welcoming, healthy, fairly accessable, family and kid friendly, educational, no registration required, no pets.  Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
