The contractor installing the sun shelter at Kestrel Park has experienced significant delays. We now anticipate the shelter being completed by October 17th, 2025.

Kestrel Park
Project Information
A Park Development Plan for Kestrel Park was completed and approved by the Board of Park Commissioners on June 14, 2023. Madison Parks will be working to implement the plan, with construction anticipated in 2024. Construction will include a new playground and community patio space. Work will also be done to establish the ground cover vegetation as noted on the plan.

Fundraising
The neighborhood had the opportunity to fundraise for additional playground equipment. The fundraising deadline has passed.
Public Input Opportunities
The public will have opportunities to provide input on the design of the playground and community patio space. Madison Parks plans to virtually host two public meetings.

September 8, 2025 Update
The contractor installing the sun shelter at Kestrel Park has experienced significant delays. We now anticipate the shelter being completed by October 17th, 2025.
May 29, 2025 Update
The sun shelter installation contract has been successfully bid and awarded to Greener Valley Landscaping. The contractor is expected to start work on the shelter site sometime in July and by complete by September 1st.
October 2, 2024 Update
Construction of the playground is complete. Seeding and site restoration around the playground will be complete around 10/7. Benches will be installed on the newly poured concrete pads in a few weeks, after the concrete has cured.

August 19, 2024 Update
Parks crews plan to begin construction on or around September 9th. Work will include playground installation and the restoration of grass areas.
August 2, 2024 Update
Parks currently anticipates work to begin to install the playground in September. While crews are there, they will also work on restoring areas to turfgrass. Unfortunately, we do not anticipate being able to install the sun shelter until next spring.
May 2, 2024 Update
Thank you to all who attended the public meetings and provided input. The design for the development of Kestrel Park has now been finalized. Final plans can be viewed below in the "Project Plans" section of this page.
Construction is currently anticipated to begin in August, with the construction of the playground. Along with playground construction, parks crews will also work to establish grass in the areas planned for mowed turf. Construction of the sun shelter is anticipated to occur in the fall.
More detailed construction dates and timeframes will be posted here as they become available.
April 9, 2024 Update
