wood mulch update

Updated: April 22, 2021

Mulch supply is currently limited.

Problems with equipment paired with less brush presently available to process as Forestry crews work on the spring planting have reduced the overall volume of wood mulch available. Supply will be made available, but delays are likely, especially for larger volumes.

Wood Mulch Information

All loads of mulch received from the transfer station must be covered or enclosed in a vehicle so it can be safely transported.

Mulch service will be denied if you do not have the ability to cover or otherwise contain the mulch to prevent it from blowing out of your vehicle during your trip away from the mulch facility.

You can choose to cover the loads a tarp or other options, like in the back of an SUV.

Beginning after April 5, 2021, small quantities of wood mulch will be available for Madison residents only and lasting through the year until the winter snows return.

Free wood mulch will only be found at 121 E. Olin Ave.

When entering the facility, free mulch for residents will be located to the left along the fence.

Follow the cones and signs to form the line so not to obstruct the heavy equipment utilizing other functions of the facility.

Do not approach the booth near the scale.

Do not enter the processing area beyond the booth.

The supply of mulch remains limited and is not guaranteed to be available for residents when they arrive. The pile of mulch for residents will be restocked when possible.

Please note that other mulch at the site is reserved for other city processes, such as keeping trees alive while they await planting in the fall, and also for bulk purchasers, like area farmers.

Mulch sales for all quantities of mulch have resumed.

MasterCard and Visa are the only forms of payment accepted at this time.

No cash or check transactions will be accepted.

Contact the processing facility for additional information.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection has certified our brush processing site for safe shredding of ash trees. This means that mulch coming from our site will be free of the emerald ash borer. You can be assured that our mulch will not transmit the emerald ash borer to your property and our mulch can be moved anywhere in the State of Wisconsin.

All material sold as is. All sales final. No refunds or exchanges.
