AGGRESSIVE DRIVING ON S. HIGHPOINT ROAD

The complaints from constituents have increased about aggressive driving and speed on S. High rPoint Road. I have requested from Captain Wahl that the portable speed board be repositioned to alert drivers to reduce their speed.  2.5 weeks ago was the last 3 car crash on that stretch of road.  Residents and fellow Alder Skidmore have expressed growing concern over the increased number of near misses on South High Point Road. Captain Wahl has reported that his officers will give special attention to the area. I will confirm with him what that may look like and keep you updated.

CRITICISM BY STATE JOURNAL
Dear Constituents:
I have been criticized for putting forth the amendment to increase Alder salary by $3,000 as self serving. I have been a committed public servant to both my district as well as my community; my service to my district can be well documented. The salary amendment failed. Frankly, I was told that the amendment would not pass. The failure of the amendment will in no way impact how I serve and carry out my commitment to the work in District 1. What putting forth the amendment did was to restart the conversation on the larger issues that must eventually be addressed by Council Leadership and eventually voted on by Council is the overall size, redistricting and re-organization of the Common Council. No question, Alders are and should be committed and accountable to their districts. I applaud those Alders who serve their districts, AND work to keep a healthy   balance between work and family. I came from the non-profit world where service is always the driving force behind the work. I believe we, as Alders, entered into this public service arena because we believed in and valued the opportunity to contribute to improving the quality of life for all our citizens. In face of the criticisms, I do not apologize for putting forth the amendment. The fact that the amendment was defeated does not make the three Alders who supported the amendment  less "smart" nor less committed to our work.

And as Alder Amanda Hall would say.. And that's my two cents.
