University Research Park West Moves Forward

posted

District 1 will be profoundly influenced by the development of University Research Park's West Campus. Tagged “URP II", plans are now moving forward to build the infrastructure to support the first group of science, technology, and employment buildings. This phase will be on the portion of the campus south of Valley View Rd and west of S Pleasant View Rd. Typical of this type of development, the City of Madison enters into a contract with the developer (in this case, University Research Park) for building the roads, sidewalks, bike paths and other infrastructure that will eventually be turned over to the city.

The Board of Public Works (BPW) was introduced to the plans on August 5. The Transportation Commission will review the plans on August 26 and provide its comments and suggestions to the Board of Public Works, which will approve or amend the plans at its September 9 meeting. Interested residents can register to watch or comment on the plans using this link for the Transportation Commission and this link for the Board of Public Works.

Consistent with the goals for the West Campus announced by University Research Park, the planned infrastructure will allow the future workforce to walk and bike to work from the current and planned residential neighborhoods which surround the campus. Here are three pages from the plans for public improvements.

Council President Sabrina Madison is overseeing the District 1 inbox. Residents are encouraged to email the District 1 account at district1@cityofmadison.com with any questions or concerns.
