Parks Alive

Parks Alive is a collaborative effort across multiple City departments and involves many community-based stakeholders and mobile resources. This is a great opportunity to come out to local parks, build community, strengthen relationships, and have fun! Click on the following parks to see dates, times and activities for:

Crossing Guards Program and Staff Recommendations

This week staff presented their recommendations at the Transportation Commission.  Various intersections were reviewed, and decisions were made based on a combination of statistical data and equity considerations based on impact and demographics.  The full presentation can be found here & the recording here.

Below are the areas that directly impact District 10. 

Raymond at Leland

• Recommend to not approve permanent Crossing Guard location
• Recommend do One Year Trial if staffing allows & review again in 2023
  • Work with school to increase walking & biking
• Continue to review Raymond Rd for larger improvements

Midvale at Nakoma / Hammersley

• Recommend to not add Crossing Guard
• Review attendance area demographics and restudy as appropriate

Mineral Point at Midvale:

• Recommend Discontinuation
• Recommend continental crosswalk & update signs to No Right Turn on Red
• Continue to review intersections for improvements

FREE monthly Community Partner training

The City of Madison - Department of Civil Rights is now holding a FREE monthly Community Partner training. The Community Partner training is a FREE informative virtual workshop session designed to educate community members and organizations about the protections offered under the Equal Opportunities Ordinance and to help raise awareness surrounding Civil Rights issues (i.e. discrimination) in the areas of Employment, Housing, and Public Accommodations.

The training was updated to make it more interactive and easier to understand, with a greater focus on teaching community members and organizations how to assist in identifying situations of discrimination. You'll learn how to aid community members you're already supporting, in filing complaints of discrimination with the City of Madison – Department of Civil Rights.

You and/or your organization are invited to sign-up here to attend one of our FREE monthly Community Partner training. Feel free to share this free training with others in your network or with others who may be interested in learning more.

If the standing dates don't work with your schedule, or your organization needs this training in a different language, you are welcomed to place a request for a separate training.

• Please join the Madison Water Utility for an update on the current status of municipal Well 15, including information on an upcoming PFAS treatment project. This will be the first of several chances for members of the public to provide input on this project and to express any opinions, concerns or recommended priorities.

Announcements

• Madison Public Library's mobile library, the Dream Bus, began its summer schedule on June 21. Follow the links to learn more about the Dream Bus and see the schedule. Read the press release here.
• The election to name the Streets Division electric compactors is now open. The final day to vote is July 5, 2022. Read the press release here.
• Madison residents can now download their trash and recycling calendars for the entirety of 2022. Go to the Streets Division's collection schedule website, and enter your address into the form. Read more here.
• The Equal Opportunities Commission is now seeking nominations for the annual Reverend James C. Wright Human Rights Award. The award honors the late Reverend James C. Wright, who served as Executive Director of the Equal Opportunities Commission from its inception in 1968 until his retirement in 1992. Nominations are due by July 22, 2022.
