D10 Local, Jobs, Meeting and Event Highlights for the Week of Aug 22, 2022

Thank you to all the neighbors from the Town of Madison that made it to the meeting yesterday!  It was a pleasure to meet you.  Special thanks to Ashley from the Arbor Hills NA who connected us with Pastor Peter.  Peter let us use his church space for the gathering, gracias Peter!  The City Staff and I appreciate your collaboration to make the event happen.  Our City Staff absolutely rocks!  They answered questions, addressed concerns, and introduced people to city services.  Gracias a todos!

3. Common Wealth Development is hiring!!  They are looking for talented folks who are interested in joining their Housing Operations and Youth Workforce Development teams.  A brief description of the positions is below, along with a link to the full job description.

• Maintenance Technician: Common Wealth Development is seeking Maintenance Technicians to conduct routine and preventive maintenance in our rental housing and commercial portfolio. The Maintenance Technician is a Coordinator-level position at Common Wealth Development, and is a full-time position (40 hours/week). Each Maintenance Technician is responsible for 45-60 units within the portfolio which is concentrated in the Marquette and Meadowood neighborhoods. Must be able to respond to after-hours emergency calls. On-call is rotated weekly between staff (on-call works 35hrs/week to accommodate). Compensation is $23.00 – $25.00/ hour, depending on experience, with full benefits, including: Zero-premium health insurance (health, dental, optical), retirement plan with employer sponsored match up to 10%, 2 weeks paid vacation, 1 week personal time, & 1 week sick leave with increases after 3 years of continuous employment.
• Youth Employment Specialist: Common Wealth Development is seeking motivated, energetic youth workers to join our team. These individuals will focus on youth workforce development programming for Madison-area high school youth. This includes working directly with teens to facilitate our employment and financial education, job placement, and mentoring programs to youth facing significant barriers to employment. These positions are also responsible for building and maintaining crucial relationships with school partners and local businesses to support Work-Based Learning programs through Madison Metropolitan School District. This is a full-time position with some evening and weekend hours required. Compensation is $20-$21/hour, depending on experience, with full benefits, including: health insurance (health, dental, optical), retirement plan, paid vacation & sick leave.  Applicants are required to have a valid driver's license and daily access to an insured car.

• The Common Council will not meet again until September 6, but many other committees meet the week of August 22, including the Sustainable Madison Committee, Water Utility Board, Community Services Committee and Disability Rights Commission. • RFP: Community Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness:  The City of Madison is accepting proposals seeking a consultant to update the Community Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness. The current Plan was developed in 2016. The community seeks a plan that reflects the present homeless situation and identifies appropriate goals and priorities along with mechanisms for their implementation and accountability. This Request for Proposals process is a collaboration between the City, Dane County and the Homeless Services Consortium (the local Continuum of Care).

• The final candidates for the Independent Police Monitor position are Robert Copley, Rodney Saunders Jr., John Tate II, and Joel Winnig. The finalists were introduced at a virtual event on August 18. The candidates had the opportunity to answer questions from members of the Police Civilian Oversight Board (PCOB). Recordings of the candidate forum and the finalists' Oral Board interviews are available on the Office of Independent Monitor website. Provide feedback on the finalists to the PCOB in a survey, also available on the Office of Independent Monitor website. The feedback survey will be open until 11:59pm on Tuesday, August 23. The Police Civilian Oversight Board plans to conduct a final interview of the four final candidates, deliberate, and make a hiring decision in closed session at its August 25 meeting.

The Draft 2023-2027 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for the Madison Metropolitan Area & Dane County is now available for review and comment. The TIP lists major transportation improvements and studies anticipated to be undertaken during the next five-year period.  The complete draft document has been posted on the MPO's website on the TIP page

• The draft TIP includes a table on page 11 showing the already approved and proposed new priority projects to be funded through the STBG – Urban program using supplemental FY 2023-2026 funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill. 
• We are hereby notifying you of the intentions of implementing units of government to request federal funding assistance for certain projects.  If you have comments or concerns regarding the federally funded projects, including the proposed STBG Urban priority projects, or any of the other listed projects, the Greater Madison MPO asks that you please submit them in writing by Friday, September 23.  Please address written comments to the MPO office or email them to MPO staff at mpo@cityofmadison.com.
• The following is the date of the virtual public hearing on the draft TIP, which provides an opportunity to provide oral comments to the board. MPO staff is also available to meet and answer questions, discuss projects, and take comments.

• The MPO anticipates submitting the final 2023-2027 TIP with all appendices to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for approval and incorporation into the State TIP by early to mid November following anticipated MPO Policy Board action at its October 5 meeting.
