Meeting & Event Highlights for the Week of March 6, 2023

Meetings

• Common Council: The Common Council will meet in hybrid format on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Agenda items includes Poetry recitation by James Roberts; honoring the resolution to celebrating March 8, 2023, as International Women's Day in the City of Madison and the proposed Building Energy Savings ordinance.

• West Area Plan - Rescheduled In-Person Public Meeting: The in-person West Area Plan meeting of February 9th that was canceled due to a snowstorm has been rescheduled to Thursday, March 9th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Vel Phillips Memorial High School, 201 South Gammon Road(enter through the front doors facing Mineral Point Road and follow the signs).  A presentation will start at approximately 6:45 p.m., followed by small group discussion.  The presentation and format are very similar to the previously held virtual meetings.  Staff requests that each person would like to attend please register to help us plan for the number of people who will be there.

• Resource & Ruin: Wisconsin's Enduring Landscape - Dec 19, 2022–Mar 26, 2023: From the earliest European encounters with the Americas, artists have been fascinated with representing its plains, rivers, forests, and mountains. This exhibition introduces some of the ways artists have utilized nature and portrayed Wisconsin and the United States through an environmental lens.
• International Women's Day Celebration - Wednesday, March 8, 2023, 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM: Celebrate International Women's Day! Feature presentation of "In Her Boots" at the Madison College Mitby Theater 1701 Wright Street Madison, WI 53704. This event is organized by: IGNITE, the Madison Fire Department, CampHERO, Madison College and Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Badgerland.
• The 23rd Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, Sunday, March 12, 2023, 1:30 p.m.
  at the Capitol Square, Madison, WI: It's time for 'the wearing of the green!"
  The St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee invites you and your organization to participate in the 2023 parade around Madison's beautiful Capitol Square.
  We welcome sponsors, parade entries, volunteers and spectators to participate as we celebrate the Irish culture.

• The City of Madison is currently accepting applications for its AASPIRE internship. This is a paid, summer internship that lasts for 8-10 weeks. Applicants should be currently enrolled in college or have graduated since May 2021.Application deadline is March 19th.
