At this stage, city staff makes recommendations and presents them to the public, the committees, and the Council. The Council is responsible for the final project decision.

The project provides multiple engagement opportunities; we start with a community meeting and incorporate various public hearings. Additional sessions can be scheduled if needed.

Design Options

Option A:

The layout would have a street width of 21 ft from face of curb to face of curb with sidewalk on the SOUTH side (Beverly Rd and Doncaster Dr) and EAST side (Danbury St) and parking only on ONE side of the street. This option adds curves to the street (on Beverly and Doncaster east of Danbury St) in order to avoid tree removals. See example of curvature in plan view above. Approximately 4 trees are anticipated to be removed.

Option A’s narrower street and curvature will have significant traffic calming effects, help save trees and will also make passing vehicles more difficult.

Option a

Option B:

The layout would have a street width of 24 ft from face of curb to face of curb with sidewalk on the SOUTH side (Beverly Rd and Doncaster Dr) and EAST side (Danbury St) and parking only on ONE side of the street. This option adds curves to the street (on Beverly and Doncaster east of Danbury St) in order to avoid tree removals, but smaller and fewer curves compared to option A.  Approximately 20 trees are anticipated to be removed.

The reduced curvature in Option B will help with traffic calming a bit, and although the street is still narrow vehicles will have less trouble passing each other – thus reducing the traffic calming effect. This option does not save as many trees as option A.

Option b

Option C:

The layout would have a street width of 24 ft from face of curb to face of curb with sidewalk on BOTH sides and parking only on ONE side of the street. The street is NOT curved for this option because doing so would not save trees.  Approximately 55 trees are anticipated to be removed.

Option C provides the most accessible street for pedestrians but removes most trees and has the least inherent traffic calming effects. This layout is most in line with city standards.

Option c
