Message from Olbrich's team and MPD: Engagement Opportunities

Olbrich's Future

What is it?

Broadly speaking, the goals of this process are to address aging infrastructure, explore potential garden expansion, and envision Olbrich's future - while at the same time addressing the needs of both a growing local community and tourism audience. The widely regarded landscape architecture firm Reed Hilderbrand was chosen through a competitive selection process to lead the design team and the project as a whole.

When is it?

We are currently in the first phase of the project, focused on discovery. Throughout the fall, the design team conducted both virtual meetings and in-person visits with staff to better understand the site, define opportunities and constraints, and hear from stakeholder groups including Olbrich volunteers and Olbrich Botanical Society board members.

First Public Meeting

Thursday, January 22, at both noon and 6 p.m. at Olbrich Botanical Gardens

The noon and evening sessions are both in -person and will be identical. The meeting will start off with some introductory information, followed by an open workshop divided into stations on key topics with opportunities to provide input. Attendees are welcome to bring children - there will be a kids' area with coloring sheets and light snacks provided.

MPD seeking to learn lessons from ALCS shooting response

Lesson Learns

The Madison Police Department has partnered with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services and the National Policing Institute to conduct the review. It will focus on what worked well, what challenges were encountered and how the Madison Police Department and other public safety groups can better prepare for future critical incidents.

Review

A Critical Response Team is examining all relevant information connected to this incident, such as 911 call logs, police video, department policies, incident reports and media coverage. The team has already completed several focus groups with public safety professionals. It will return to Madison in February to conduct more.

Participation is voluntary and confidential

Members of the ALCS community, Madison residents and other government and support agencies directly involved may participate in these groups.
