Ian Brown

I’m excited and honored to be joining the City of Madison Forestry team!  It doesn’t get any better than being the Forestry leader in an incredibly supportive community like Madison.  This is truly a “dream job!”  There is a wealth of knowledge already on staff and I look forward to integrating my 17 years of public urban forestry experience within the team.  Madison Forestry is uniquely positioned to lead, model, and support urban tree initiatives.  These efforts will not be the sole responsibility of the City team, as I plan to identify opportunities to collaborate with regional partners, educational institutions, and community organizations.  Sustainable long-term growth requires engagement across the spectrum.  People share a deeper investment in successful outcomes when they are a part of the process.  We will be looking to support increasing the pool of participants, both in the work we are doing, as well as the employees and community partners executing the work.   There is excellent opportunity within the Madison community.  I’m excited to jump-in and engage the support of our Forestry team as we grow Madison’s urban canopy for future generations.I am a long-term member of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), Wisconsin Arborist Association (WAA), and Society of Municipal Arborists (SMA).  I also hold professional credentials from ISA as a Certified Arborist, Municipal Specialist, and Tree Risk Assessment Qualification.  I earned a BA from the University of Minnesota – Morris and an MS from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point.

* If inclement weather, event will be rescheduled to virtual format
