Vilas Park Master Plan

You're invited to attend Community Input Meeting #3 which will include the presentation and discussion of the DRAFT final master plan.

Community Input Meeting #3 to present the Draft Final Master Plan for Vilas Park will again be held online using Zoom. The purpose of the meeting will be to introduce and discuss the Draft Final Master Plan  and to update attendees on the remaining steps in the project timeframe as well as to discuss the process for review and approvals that a Final Master Plan Report will follow.

Public Safety Summit

Alternate Side Parking Begins November 15

The City of Madison's alternate side parking restrictions begin at 1 a.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2020.

Alternate side parking is in effect each night from November 15, 2020 to March 15, 2021. This parking rule is only enforced between the hours of 1:00am and 7:00am

Residents who park on the street within Snow Emergency Zone only need to follow the alternate side parking rule when a Declared Snow Emergency is in effect.

You can sign up to receive regular Winter Text alerts telling you where to park your car during the winter months at www.cityofmadison.com/winter.

Residents can also sign up to receive email and text alerts when a snow emergencies are declared and you can also receive updates detailing the Streets Division's snow plowing operations. You can sign up for these alerts at the winter website, too.

Within District 13, this change impacts Dudgeon-Monroe. However, new traffic signs have not yet been installed throughtout the D-M neighborhood.

Traffic Engineering is working on installing the signs. For this winter, new signs are likely to be in place in the cluster of streets between Odana Rd and Commonwealth. So places like Gregory, Briar Hill, Arbor, Knickerbocker, Gilmore, etc.  

Fox Ave will get signs on the part that is west of Commonwealth. I'm told this is the only area receiving new signage for this winter. Commonwealth, the remainder of Fox, Leonard, Edgewood, Keyes, West Lawn, Terry & Woodrow are all due to get signs during the 2020/21 installation (barring something else unforeseen, of course).

As an ornithologist, college professor, poet, author, and conservation activist, Lanham will offer unique perspectives that expand our awareness of the natural world and progress our moral responsibility forward in new ways. By examining how conservation is both a rigorous science and evocative art, Lanham invites diversity and race to play active roles in celebrating our natural world. Energy & Climate Justice - Virtual Discussion hosted by the WI Energy Institute.

The negative economic and environmental impacts of our fossil fuel based energy system have concentrated effects on communities of color. Centuries of racial segregation, redlining, and unequal pay have left these marginalized groups on land where they face disproportionately high levels of pollution and are more vulnerableto the impacts of climate change. Communities of color also face systemic disadvantages in energy costs, higher energy burdens, and limited access to renewable energy benefits. Introductory remarks from WI Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes. Lastly

COVID-19 cases continue to surge. The holidays are coming up and it's important to have a plan. Some of you, like me, live alone. The thought of spending the holidays without friends and family is tough to bear. I sympathize, believe me.

Letting up at this point, however, is not an option.

This article in the New York Times talks about having a plan for the holidays in light of uncontrolled community spread. I encourage you to read it and make plans now for how you can connect.

We are built for affection and mutual support. It's in our DNA as social creatures.
