Transit Network Redesign, Safe Streets, Bayview's Good News, McGrath Project

posted

Hi Everyone.

Here are this week's updates.

Metro Transit Network Redesign

There was a well-attended public meeting last week on the Metro Transit Network Redesign draft plan. A number of neighborhood information meetings will take place throughout the city over the next two months, including a combined District 13 and 14 meeting for southside residents on April 7. You can find a link to meeting details, background information, and a survey at the project page here.

Safe Streets Madison

The Transportation Commission approved nearly $700,000 worth of safety and pedestrian/bike network improvement projects at their meeting on Wednesday, including a number of projects in District 13. The commission is expected to approve another $700,000 worth of projects at an upcoming meeting. I will share more information out ahead of the next round of review.

Congratulations Bayview!

Bayview Foundation received word from Governor Evers' office that they've received a grant from the Neighborhood Investment Fund for $2 million. (Click here for information about all the Madison funded projects,) This good news follows Bayview's announcement that the Goodman Foundation is donating $2.5 million targeted for Bayview's new community center.

McGrath Proposal Comes Back

The McGrath Property Group's proposal for a 12-story development project on E. Olin Ave is back in play and goes before Urban Design Commission for an informational presentation on March 9. I will be holding a virtual neighborhood meeting for interested Bay Creek residents on Monday, March 14 at 6:30 pm. As soon as I have more details, including the Zoom link, I'll share them with the BCNA listserv.

The Big Share returns on March 1

The Big Share is a fun, easy and flexible way to donate to and learn more about organizations making a difference in our community. The Big Share is hosted by Community Shares of Wisconsin (CSW) for 70 local nonprofits, including several in District 13, dedicated to building an equitable and just community and protecting our environment. CSW and its members envision a future where all voices are heard, where we all have clean water and air, where all neighbors have access to family-supporting jobs, and all communities in Wisconsin are safe and thriving. Lastly...

As we watch the events unfold in Ukraine, it's worth noting democracy is under threat in this country as well. The January 6 congressional investigation is not yet complete, but what we're learning is unsettling. Meanwhile, it's stunning to watch in real time as Ukrainian citizens courageously stand up for the basic principles we take for granted here. Let us resolve to be ever vigilant to protect our democracy, giving no quarter to those who would undermine our election process through lies and subterfuge.

Take care and stay safe.
