Glen Golf Park, Building Energy Savings Program

posted

Hi Everyone,

Here are the updates heading into next week:

Glen Golf Park Grand Reopening

As I shared on a previous blog post, you are cordially invited to the grand reopening celebration of the Glen Golf Park, starting at 3pm tomorrow at the Golf Park, located at 3747 Speedway Rd. It's going to be a fun day and the weather looks like it's going to great!

Buidling Energy Savings Program

Next week, on Wednesday, July 13 at 1pm, there will be a public information meeting about the purpose, aims, and scope of the new Building Energy Savings Program. I've been working with Alder Abbas and the Mayor's office for over year to develop this program, which will include energy benchmarking, periodic tune-ups, and other supporting initiatives to help commercial building owners identify opportunities to increase energy efficiency and save money.

Reimagining the Glenway Woods

I recently posted this invitation for you to participate in the planning process for the Glenway Woods. There will be two information sessions next week, on Wed July 13 and Thurs July 14. Click here for more details.

Commoun Council Meetings Going Hybrid

The Madison Common Council and Mayor Rhodes-Conway are excited to announce the development of a hybrid format for Common Council meetings to help further the City’s equity, accessibility and resident engagement goals. Members of the public may choose to view and/or provide comment in person or virtually at hybrid Council meetings. Read more here.

The first hybrid Council meeting will be next Tuesday, July 12. I will be out of town on business and will be missing this meeting with an excused absence. Details for Tuesday's Council meeting, including the agenda and how to watch online, are available by clicking here.

Lastly....

In my mind, Monday's celebration of July 4th was sobering enough, pausing in the midst of parades, picnics and fireworks to reflect on the current state of our democracy. And then to learn that the shooter who murdered seven people that morning in Highland Park actually drove to Madison with the possibility of doing the same here.

Yesterday, we learned of the terrible assasination of Japan's former prime minister, Shinzo Abe. How interesting was it to discover the rarity of gun violence in this country, that Japan had only ten gun-related deaths last year, and only one by homicide.

Here, in the United States of America, we've had over 300 mass shootings so far this year. Unbelievable.

Something needs to change.

Take care and stay safe,
