Wingra Watershed Study, Starbucks Drive-Thru, Bikeways 2023

posted

Hi Everyone,

Here are this week's updates.

Wingra Proper Watershed Study

The City of Madison is completing a watershed study in the Wingra Proper watershed. The City of Madison contracted with an engineering consulting firm to complete the study. The watershed study will identify causes of existing flooding and then look at potential solutions to try to reduce flooding. The study will use computer models to assist with the evaluations. A public information meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 15 at 6 p.m. via Zoom. Prior registration is required, which you may do by clicking here.

Starbucks Drive-Thru Proposal at UDC

The Urban Design Commission meets on Wednesday, August 16, in Room 206 of the Madison Municipal Building at 4:30 PM. The proposed Starbucks drive-thru at 1609 S. Park St. is again on the agenda.

78641 - 1609 S Park Street - Exterior Renovations to an Existing Building in Urban Design District (UDD) 7. Final Approval is Requested as UDC is an Approving Body. UDC deals primarily with design features. One sticking point is the percentage for front-facing windows which according to UDD 7 standards must be 40%. Discussion by UDC members at the last meeting noted the site has inherent limitations. At any rate, if UDC does give approval, the matter then goes to Plan Commission, which is where I suspect the debate about whether a drive-thru only business is right for this site will come into sharp focus.

Meeting details for Wednesday's UDC meeting are here and the agenda is here. If you wish to register for Public Comment, please click here.

Madison Food Policy Council

The Madison Food Policy Council meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 16 in virtual format at 5:30 PM. Agenda items include reports from the Chair of the Madison Food Policy Council, the Farmland Preservation Task Force, Madison Metropolitan School District, Dane Food Access Network, and more.

Bikeways 2023 Meets This Thursday

Bikeways 2023 is meant to cover small improvements and repairs to the city bike network. Four projects have been identified by planners and residents as crucial missing links for bike accessibility, safety, and comfort. A public information meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 17 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. Prior registration is required.
