Memorial Day Ceremony, Housing and Transit Updates, First Time Homebuyers
postedHi, all.
I trust you all had a pleasant holiday weekend. I spent yesterday morning at Forest Hill Cemetery, joining Mayor Satya at the annual Memorial Day ceremony held by the Madison Veterans Council honoring veterans who gave their lives in service of our country. It was a lovely and sobering ceremony on a beautiful Madison morning.
Here are this week’s updates:
Housing and Transit
This past week, the city's Housing Policy Committee met for the first time since the Housing Policy and Landlord and Tenant Issues committees were combined. City staff provided detailed information on the current state of housing in Madison. To learn more, please check out the presentation, available by clicking here.
Please note there will be two stages of new housing proposals from the Mayor, with the first set coming to the Housing Strategy Committee on June 26th.
Regarding transit, the Greater Madison MPO is running a survey that will help shape the Active Transportation Plan, including walking and biking. There's even a map for people to drop pins and comments on specific locations!

Lastly…
The Memorial Day ceremony I attended with the Mayor was appropriately somber. There was no boasting, no politicking, no talk about trophy wives. It was as it should be, a time of reflection about the freedoms specified in our Constitution and secured by the courage of those “who gave their last full measure of devotion.”
Those who hug flags while undercutting the republic for which it stands are dubious patriots. Recall what Samuel Johnson wrote in 1775, that “patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.”
The true patriot Thomas Paine, if he were alive today, would no doubt restate his famous words that “These are the times that try men’s souls.” May we all find the courage to not shrink but stand in the service of those sacred principles so many died to defend.
Take care and stay safe,
