Redistricting, ADUs, Dempsey/Davies/Maher Update - D15 Update 11/1/21

Redistricting

The new proposed alder districts will be in front of the Common Council on Tuesday for adoption. The redistricting website has links to all the prior materials as well as the ordinances that will be up for adoption. I have discussed the impact of these proposed changes on D15 residents in previous blog posts and support the proposed maps. I am cosponsoring a minor amendment to keep the entire Ridgewood neighborhood within D17 boundaries and another to shift the new ward separation in Eastmorland to align with the railroad tracks. Once approved, the new district boundaries will go into effect on January 1, 2022 and current alders will represent the new districts at that time.

Accessory Dwelling Units

Tuesday’s Common Council meeting will also include the introduction of an ordinance that would make construction of an Accessory Dwelling Unit on single-family lots a permitted rather than a conditional use. It also updates related requirements related to size and height requirements. I am a cosponsor of this ordinance and am excited to make it easier for home owners to construct an ADU on their properties. You can read more about the proposal in this press release here. 

Eastmorland Leaf Raking

The Eastmorland Community Association (ECA) will hold its 17th Annual Leaf Raking Party at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021 (rain date 1:00 p.m., Sunday, November 7). Please join us as we go around our neighborhood to rake for neighbors who are not able to rake their own yards due to health reasons. We need volunteers to rake, and kids are welcome to help. You can find additional details here.
