Meeting and Event Highlights for the Week of December 4, 2023

posted

Hello --

I will be unavailable and mostly away from email on Tuesday, December 5th and Wednesday, December 6th.

You can find contact info for Common Council office staff at: https://www.cityofmadison.com/council/about

Regarding this evening's discussion and vote on Calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, even though I will be unavailable for tonight's meeting I have added my name as a co-sponsor for the resolution as I echo many of the sentiments shared by elected officials across the country.

The devastating loss of life among both Palestinians and Israelis has been heartbreaking and we cannot forget the countless families torn apart, the children left without parents, and the communities shattered by violence.

As we ask for a ceasefire, we must also condemn Islamophobia and Antisemitism unequivocally. We must reinforce our commitment to fostering a community that embraces diversity and rejects hatred in all its forms.

Let us also not forget the importance of local dialogue and education. It is important to the overall health of our local community that we embrace opportunities to be in community with each other where we can learn from one another, respectfully.
