Resolution of Appreciation: Recognizing the Exemplary Service of Retired Captain Kelly Donahue

On Tuesday, January 9, the Common Council will take up an honoring resolution that would express appreciation to retired Madison Police Department Captain Kelly Donahue for her years of dedicated service to the City of Madison.

Kelly Donahue's contributions to our community have been nothing short of exceptional. Starting as an officer in 1997, her journey within the Madison Police Department led her through various roles, culminating in her tenure as Captain of the North Police District, where her leadership and unwavering dedication significantly impacted our city.

Throughout her distinguished career, Kelly demonstrated outstanding commitment, serving not only the North Police District but also the entire Madison community. Her involvement as a SWAT negotiator, her leadership roles with the MPD Honor Guard, and her extensive volunteer work with Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) Kids Camp in Wisconsin are testament to her selflessness and dedication beyond the call of duty.

Her tireless efforts to honor fallen officers through Law Enforcement United, including a remarkable 1,000-mile bicycle ride over ten days, showcase her deep commitment to honoring her fellow officers and their sacrifices.

Kelly Donahue's recent recognition as the 2023 Madison.com People's Choice Law Enforcement Officer is a testament to the impact she made in our community and the respect she earned from the public.

Therefore, on behalf of the Mayor and Common Council, we formally express our deepest gratitude to retired Captain Kelly Donahue for her exemplary service to the City of Madison, particularly her exceptional leadership over the past three years in the North Police District.
