The Common Council New Business Summaries help readers identify items they are interested in as they make their way through City Boards, Commissions, and Committees (BCCs) and back to the Common Council for a decision. This document provides a short description of each item that was introduced at the most recent Common Council meeting in the “Introduction of New Business for Referral Without Debate” section of the agenda, as well as any items introduced from the floor at the most recent Common Council meeting.

Ordinances:
88319 – This proposed ordinance would modify restaurant and alcohol-related uses in zoning code. This proposed ordinance will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

Resolutions:
87864 – This proposed resolution would authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to enter into a contract for Purchase of Services with Sketchworks Architecture, LLC for professional architectural and engineering design services and construction administration services for the design and construction of the Far West Public Works Operations Building. 87867 – This proposed resolution would authorize a non-competitive contract with IMEG, Inc. for the production of biddable construction documents and specifications for the Bolz Conservatory at Olbrich Botanical Gardens in District 15. 88293 – This proposed resolution would authorize the City of Madison Water Utility to apply for and accept if awarded, grant funding of up to $36,277 from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services for a portion of the costs of replacing pumps to remotely adjust fluoride feed rate based on changing water pumping conditions. 88328 – This proposed resolution would authorize the amendment of a non-competitive selection contract with Short Elliott Hendrickson, Inc. for design services related to the reconstruction of Madison Water Utility’s Unit Well 12 in District 11. 88329 – This proposed resolution would vacate and discontinue approximately 105 square feet or 0.002 acres of unimproved surplus public street right-of-way of Schewe Road to allow for the replatting and further dividing of Certified Survey Map No. 9672 and a portion of the Eagle Trace Plat in District 9. This proposed resolution will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

Items Introduced from the Floor:
Items that are introduced from the floor at the Common Council meeting differ from other items introduced as new business. When these items return to Common Council, they will be re-referred, rather than being taken up for a vote. This means that public comment will not be taken during the initial return to Common Council but will instead be taken at its next return. However, public comment will be taken on any items introduced from the floor at other Boards, Committees, and Commission meetings. Directions for how to register for public comment can be found below.
88327 – This proposed resolution would authorize a $1,666,000 loan to Wash Franklin, LLC for the construction of approximately 223 units of affordable housing and approximately 68 parking stalls located at 501 E. Washington Avenue in District 6. This proposed resolution will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

When you click on that link, you will see that there is a drop down for “Meeting,” where you select the BCC that you are wishing to register for. It is important to note that registration is only available once the BCC has published its agenda, which is typically done a few days ahead of the meeting. Once the agenda is published, you can select the meeting and choose the agenda number that aligns with the file number of the item you are interested in. From here, you can choose to register support or oppose the agenda item, if you would like to speak, if you are representing an organization or person other than yourself, and provide your contact information.
