Common Council to Discuss Collaborative Approaches to Violence Prevention February 3

The Madison Common Council will hold a discussion on Violence Prevention on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Room 215 of the Madison Municipal Building. This event will feature presentations from several City agencies, including Public Health Madison & Dane County, the Madison Police Department, the Madison Fire Department, the Parks Division, and the Traffic Engineering Division. Each agency will provide updates on its violence prevention initiatives.

Public Health Madison & Dane County will provide an overview of the Violence Prevention Unit's activities. The Madison Police Department will discuss crime statistics, their responses to incidents, and their operational strategies. The Madison Fire Department will present information about the CARES team and its role in aligning with community violence prevention efforts. The Parks Division will focus on creating safe and welcoming park spaces and programs, while the Traffic Engineering Department will address the Vision Zero initiative.
The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. in Room 215 of the Madison Municipal Building. This discussion is intended as a briefing and not a formal Common Council meeting. No formal action will be taken during this discussion (no votes, no introduction of legislation, etc.). Additionally, there will be no public comment period.
